Matthew J. Blitz, MD, MBA, FACOG, CPHQ, CPPS is a board-certified maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) subspecialist at South Shore University Hospital (SSUH). He serves as Director of Clinical Research for the Division of MFM at Northwell Health and Program Director of the MFM Fellowship Program at SSUH. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Health Systems Science at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. He holds leadership roles on several hospital and health system quality improvement committees, including Chair of the Perinatal Health Disparities Committee at SSUH, and co-leader of the Peripartum Data Analytics Workgroup at the Center for Maternal Health.
Dr. Blitz is a principal investigator on several studies focusing on maternal and fetal health. His work aims to better understand pregnancy complications, optimize clinical management, and improve birth outcomes. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications, mentored more than 40 students and trainees, and served as a peer reviewer for over 20 academic journals.
Dr. Blitz has pioneered several educational innovations aimed at enhancing the learning experiences of medical students, residents, and fellows. This includes developing 3D-printed simulators for ultrasound-guided prenatal diagnostic procedures and using AI-driven large language models to generate exam questions comparable to those by human experts. He has also created microlearning infographic content on obstetrical ultrasound and high-risk pregnancy for Northwell Health’s Just-in-Time Teaching (JiTT) app.
He earned his medical and business degrees at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine and Marshall School of Business, respectively. Dr. Blitz completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellowship in MFM at North Shore-LIJ.
