Gregory Valentine MD MED FAAP is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology at the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Valentine is committed to a career at improving health outcomes of neonates in resource-limited settings globally. In 2012, he began a combined Pediatrics-Global Child Health Residency program at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. As part of this residency program, in 2014 he lived and worked in Constanta, Romania working with pediatric patients that had HIV, AIDS, or tuberculosis. He subsequently completed a perinatal-neonatal fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in 2019 where he was formally worked on developing novel methods to improve neonatal outcomes in Malawi.
Overall, Dr. Valentine's research has centered upon evaluating neonatal outcomes and its relationship to maternal-fetal inflammation. He has focused on topics related to congenital infections, specifically maternal Zika virus infection, and its relationship to adverse newborn health outcomes. Moreover, he is currently exploring the relationship of maternal periodontitis on adverse obstetric health outcomes (such as preterm birth and low birthweight). Ultimately, he seeks innovative ways to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes both domestically and abroad.
