As a board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Ruma’s top priority is caring for patients with a high risk pregnancy. Helping women overcome medical, surgical or obstetrical problems with optimal care during their pregnancy is a great joy for him.

Dr. Ruma joined Perinatal Associates of New Mexico in 2008 after completing his fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of North Carolina. He also received a Master of Public Health degree in Health Policy and Administration from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina.
Education is a vital aspect of medicine and research in our field is constantly changing. Dr. Ruma routinely attends medical and ultrasound conferences in order to provide the most current, advanced care for his patients. He has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and research. He has presented at several national and international conferences on a variety of topics and is the author of peer-reviewed manuscripts on maternal red blood cell sensitization, the effects of periodontal disease on pregnancy, efficiency in obstetric ultrasound
performance, preterm labor standardization and the harmful effect of prior authorization on medical practice. He also enjoys mentoring local medical students interested in obstetrics.
Outside of work, Dr. Ruma loves to exercise, hike the trails in the beautiful state of New Mexico, and spend time with his wife traveling the globe.
