Neonatology Fellow
University of California San Francisco
Dr. Marie Cornet, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Neonatology at Benioff Children Hospital, University of California, San Francisco. She is passionate about improving neuro-developmental outcomes of term neonates with or at risk for brain injury and brain dysfunction. She is funded by a K23 from NICHD to study the role of maternal chorioamnionitis and maternal fever on the risk of neonatal encephalopathy and treatment with therapeutic hypothermia.
She characterized a cohort of >500 neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy born in Kaiser Permanente, Northern California, between 2012 and 2019, with well-defined pregnancy, labor, and neonatal characteristics, including maternal medication, EFM tracings, and detailed neurologic examination. Her goal is to identify how maternal fever and inflammation in labor may affect the risk of adverse neurologic outcomes in the offspring.
She published multiple papers on the impact of epidural analgesia on neonatal outcomes, the impact of exposure to chorioamnionitis on outcomes among neonates with HIE and the role of fever and chorioamnionitis on HIE risks.
Dr. Cornet completed her pediatric residency in Belgium before moving to California in 2016, where she completed her neonatology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco.
