Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Dr. Angelina Aduke Toluhi is a medical doctor, and currently a postdoctoral ressearch fellow in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her research focuses on factors contributing to these disparities and potential strategies to address them. She was recently awarded a postdoctoral research grant by the American Heart Association (AHA) to develop and beta-test a community health literacy program to improve the prepregnancy and interpregnancy cardiovascular health of racially and ethnically diverse women living in maternity care deserts in Alabama.
For over 16 years, Aduke has added significantly to public health and health development in Nigeria and a few African countries specifically in the areas of health systems strengthening, strategy development, technical assistance, and program management of health projects; comprehensive HIV care, support, and treatment – including PMTCT; public health promotion; and maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition. She has designed, implemented, and evaluated health projects and programs for community and state health systems in Nigeria, in collaboration with the government, UN agencies and other development partners. She has led the implementation of USG, GAVI, Global Fund, and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) funded health projects, providing guidance in relation to her core areas of expertise.
Dr. Toluhi obtained her medical degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria; a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom and recently a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was a 2020-21 International Fellow of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and a Fellow of the UAB Sparkman’s Center for Global Health. She has received several scholarships and awards including the Nutrition International’s Innovator of the Year Award in 2016.
