Jaleesa Garner, an M.D. candidate at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, is a dedicated scholar and leader with a profound commitment to advancing women’s health and addressing health disparities. Garner brings a wealth of experience in medical research, leadership, and community service to her work.
Jaleesa began her academic journey at the University of Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Bacteriology with a minor in Women’s Studies, focusing on Race, Gender, and Nations. Her academic interests extended internationally, as demonstrated by her study abroad experience at Cape Town University in South Africa, where she explored public health on a global scale. She further enhanced her expertise by obtaining a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Duke University. Throughout her academic journey, Jaleesa has distinguished herself as a researcher and leader. Her research spans maternal health innovations, and continues to expound her interest on the various aspects of women's health. As Co-President of the OB/GYN Interest Group, she has spearheaded initiatives that foster community engagement, including feminine product drives and mentorship programs for underrepresented students.
Jaleesa's accomplishments have earned her recognition through prestigious awards like the Walstrom Family Endowed Women’s Health Research Fund and the National Health Service Corps Scholarship. A member of organizations such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and Student National Medical Association, she continues to drive change in healthcare. In her free time, Jaleesa enjoys exercising, traveling, and painting, embodying a well-rounded approach to life and leadership.
