Dr. Anthony Vintzileos, MD, serves as the Chief Patient Safety Officer for Obstetrics at Northwell Health's Western Region and is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Dr. Vintzileos has an extensive body of work, having authored or co-authored 407 peer-reviewed articles, 85 non-peer-reviewed articles, 67 book chapters, 7 books, and 531 abstracts and scientific presentations on maternal-fetal medicine, fetal behavior, fetal heart rate monitoring, and obstetrical ultrasonography. His research has significantly contributed to modern obstetrical practices, particularly in fetal biophysical profiling, preterm premature rupture of membranes, fetal heart rate monitoring, genetic sonography, fetal anomalies, growth restriction, and preterm birth. In 2020, Dr. Vintzileos and his team reported the first confirmed case of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) invading the human placenta, using electron microscopy for visualization.
Since 2011, Dr. Vintzileos has been the Subspecialty Editor for “Obstetrical Ultrasound” in the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. Additionally, he has served as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology since June 2014 and as its Deputy Editor for Obstetrics since 2016.
