My name is Aviva Lee-Parritz. I am a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist, an Associate Professor and recently retired Chair of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the Boston Medical Center and Chobanian & Avedisian Boston University School of Medicine, We are the largest safety-net hosptial in New England. My research interest is focused on management of pre-gestational and gestational diabetes, its impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes, and the intergenerational effects of fetal exposure to excess metabolic fuels in utero. I have worked collaboratively with endocrinologists for 29 years and have developed 2 successful multi-disciplinary practices at major academic medical centers to care for women with diabetes complicating pregnancy, where I have trained OBGYN residents, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Endocrinology fellows. I had the key role in a multicenter trial of antenatal Vitamin D supplementation to reduce childhood asthma. I am keenly aware of the devastating, reverberating and intergenerational effects of postpartum depression. I was a co-PI on a PCORI grant: Improving Outcomes for Low-Income Mothers with Depression: A Comparative Effectiveness Trial of Two Brief Interventions in the Patient-Centered Medical Home. I have led introduction of innovative models of care, including a variety of multi-disciplinary programs and Centering Pregnancy ™ (group prenatal care). I have led efforts locally and national for gender and racial equity in academic medicine. I was the Chair of the Commitee for Diversity and Health Care Disparities for SMFM. I was the Director of the Office of Equity, Vitality and Inclusion for the Boston University Medical Campus, and Assistant Dean for Faculty Practice at the Boston University School of Medicine. I wsa the executive sponsor for the Equity in Pregnancy initiative for the Boston Medical Health System Health Equity Accelerator.
