Pregnancy morbidity and mortality have more than doubled in the last 25 years in the United States. Pregnancy cardiac arrest (PCA) is the final common pathway for a variety of maternal pathophysiologic insults. PCA has been a focus of my career as a maternal fetal medicine specialist originally trained in Boston at Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals. Currently, I am Director of Ultrasound, Fetal Echocardiography and Perinatal research at The Valley Hospital and Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine.
Most recently, I continue to serve as a member of the 2025 Guidelines Special Populations Writing Group, author and lecturer for the American Heart Association. I continue to serve as a member of ILCOR representing pregnancy cardiac arrest. In 2021, I was recognized for my contributions to resuscitation science particullarly in the area of pregnancy cardiac arrest with appointment as a fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA). I currently have a grant through AHA/MERCK dedicated to interconception care.
In addition to resuscitation science, I am passionate about fetal imaging including fetal echoechocardiography inspired by my mentor Dr Beryl Benacerraf.
Using fetal echocardiography skills, I cultivated an interest in pregnancy cardiopulmonary POCUS. I am active in the AIUM and serve on the board of governors and have been recognized as a FAIUM in 2024. I continue to be active in our SMFM most recently in the Emerging Leaders organizing group, SMFM committees and Literature Alert since its inception culminating in serving as Literature Alert Team Director 2021-2023.
I am honored to present reseach in AI focused upon fetal cardiac imaging for optimizationn of prenatal diagnosis of CHD.
