Laurent Mandelbrot is Professor at Université Paris-Cité and Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, a level 3 perinatal center at Louis Mourier Hospital (Colombes, France) in the Paris University Hospital System. His principal field of expertise is in Maternal/fetal medicine.
He teaches OB/GYN, mentors in the fellowship program in Paris, directs post-graduate diplomas and teaches post-graduate courses in France and in other European countries, especially concerning infections in pregnancy.
Dr Mandelbrot has a long-standing involvement in the prevention of Mother-to-child HIV transmission and of other infections notably toxoplasmosis and on transplacental pharmacology of antivirals in the ex-vivo placental cotyledon model. He currently leads a nationwide observatory (Lactavih) of breastfeeding by women living with HIV.
He also leads a large collaborative research program on the prevention of neonatal sepsis based on maternal vaginal samples, the InSPIRe study, which is funded by the French public investment bank (BPI-France, PSPH 2018) with the perspective of developing a point-of-care test.

He is a reviewer for research funding programs and for numerous international medical journals, a member of Expert Groups for the Haute Autorité de Santé, French Drug Agency, and coordinates expert guidelines on HIV, Reproduction and Pregnancy.
He is a member of the Society for Materna/Fetal Medicine, the French National College of Gynecologists-Obstetricians, the Francophone Club of Fetal Medicine, International Fetal Medicine and Surgery Society (former member) and International AIDS Society, the President of the Scientific Committee of the Sexual Health and Human Rights UNESCO Chair and a member (membre correspondant) of the French National Academy of Medicine.
