Maria Alejandra Fernández Cásseres, MD, is a Colombian physician and Research Associate in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. She is pursuing a Master of Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness at Harvard T.H. Chan with a research focus on women's health. Dr. Fernández is committed to addressing health disparities and improving healthcare outcomes for marginalized populations.
Her current work includes evaluating the cost-effectiveness of HPV self-sampling tests among women in rural Colombia and conducting a cross-sectional study to evaluate the outcomes between conservative vs. non-conservative management in Placenta Accreta Spectrum. Additionally, as part of her research projects, Dr. Fernández is evaluating the national practices surrounding bedrest and activity restrictions in pregnancy and analyzing concordance among national and international obstetric guidelines.
Beyond research, Dr. Fernández is an active peer reviewer and editorial board member for the 'Principles and Practice of Clinical Research journal. She is also a member of the Public Health Leadership Lab at Harvard T.H. Chan and has recently become interested in integrating AI into healthcare research.
