Maria Smereka, a medical student at the Long School of Medicine (The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio), is a presenting author of two posters at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine 2025 Pregnancy Meeting. She is passionate about women's health research, with a particular focus on contraception. Maria volunteers at the MOMMIES clinic in San Antonio, where she educates pregnant women with substance use disorder (SUD) on methadone about prenatal and postnatal care. Additionally, she serves as the primary researcher for a Medical Spanish elective at her institution, aimed at improving language proficiency among future healthcare providers. Maria’s career goals are to advance women’s health, contribute to improving language access and concordance in healthcare, and become a compassionate, competent physician.
