Niraj R. Chavan, MD, MPH, FACOG, FASAM is an Associate Professor in the Div. of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Dept. of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at Saint Louis University (SLU). Dr. Chavan serves as the Medical Director for the Women and Infant Substance Help (WISH) Center at SLU, SSM Health, in St. Louis, MO - focused on providing comprehensive, high-risk maternity care and substance use recovery services for women with perinatal substance use disorders. He also serves as the Program Director for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship as well as core faculty for the Addiction Medicine Fellowship program at SLU - the only such ACGME approved fellowship in the entire state of Missouri. Additionally, Dr. Chavan has designed and serves as the Course Director for a 4th year medical school elective on “Perinatal Addiction and Maternal Mental Health” through the SLU School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine and Addiction Medicine and is actively involved in clinical care, research and educational outreach related to perinatal substance use disorders in the academic and community setting.
Dr. Chavan also serves as the Co-Chair (Chair-Elect) for the Missouri Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review (PAMR) board and Maternal Health Chair for the Missouri Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MO PQC). In this capacity, he has presented several didactic sessions on practical aspects of perinatal SUD management as a part of the ongoing AIM Care for the Pregnant and Parenting People with Substance Use Disorder (CPPPSUD) bundle implementation across Missouri. He has led nationally attended CME webinar series on perinatal substance use disorder treatment through Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) programs and currently serves as course faculty for the “Mothers, Infants and NAS” ECHO as a part of the Show-Me ECHO program through the Missouri Telehealth Network.
