Dr. Rachel Sinkey is an Associate Professor of OB/GYN in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a clinician-scientist studying hypertension and heart/lung/blood diseases during pregnancy and the postpartum period. She is the PI of an NHLBI-funded "ACHIEVE" trial assessing the potential benefit for the treatment of mild hypertension in pregnant patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and is co-PI of an American Heart Association Health Equity Research Network study entitled P3OPPY where her team is studying the benefits of community health worker and digital health interventions to reduce adverse perinatal outcomes. Dr. Sinkey attended Asbury University in Wilmore, KY and the University Of Kentucky College Of Medicine before pursuing obstetrics and gynecology training at TriHealth /Good Samaritan in Cincinnati, OH. She subsequently pursued sub-specialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of South Florida and joined the UAB Dept of OB/GYN in 2017. After joining UAB, she worked with the Alabama Department of Public Health to launch the Alabama Maternal Mortality Review Committee where she served as founding chair. In her spare time, she can be found spending time with her husband and kids at the ball field, gymnastics gym or traveling.
