Katharine "Kayla" Bruce, MPH, is a PhD student in Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. Her research focusses on maternal mortality, severe maternal morbidity, and postpartum contraception. She is working with UNC’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as part of the Postnatal Patient Safety Learning Lab, conducting quantitative research focused on improving systems of postnatal care. Prior to beginning her PhD, Kayla worked as the Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Epidemiologist for the Louisiana Department of Health. In this role, she supported the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative and the statewide Maternal Mortality Review, and developed a passion for using quantitative research to improve maternal health outcomes. She received her MPH and BSPH from Tulane University.
