Sarah Averbach, MD, MAS is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Associate Fellowship Director of the Fellowship in Complex Family Planning, and the Director of the Program in Global Women’s Health at University of California, San Diego. Her clinical work focuses on management of undesired and abnormal pregnancies. Her research focuses on expanding access to postpartum contraception locally and globally. She is the PI on a multi-site randomized trial evaluating the expulsion rate of intrauterine devices placed in the early postpartum period funded by the Society of Family Planning Research Fund. Additionally, she is a co-investigator for an NICHD R01 funded study evaluating a gender-equity focused family planning intervention that includes husbands in contraceptive decision making in rural India.
