Sydney Thayer, M.D. is a current first year Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellow at Washington University in St. Louis. She is originally from San Diego, California and spent much of her young life in California, completing her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at University of Southern California and her medical degree at University of California, San Diego. In medical school, she fostered an interest in underserved medicine and was elected into the Gold Humanism Honors Society. She then completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon where she developed an interest in obstetrics research, particularly in the realms of diabetes management and quality improvement. Her enthusiasm for education was recognized with multiple teaching awards, and she was granted the SMFM Residency Program Award for Excellence in Obstetrics. In fellowship at Wash U St. Louis, she hopes to encourage others to be excited about quality improvement research and the impact it can have on patient care as she grows toward building a career in academic medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, scrapbooking, and musical theatre.
