Meredith Birsner is a maternal fetal medicine specialist at St. Luke’s University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where she serves as Co-Chief of Obstetrics. During her fellowship training at Johns Hopkins, she helped develop the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine critical care obstetrics simulation materials, found on the SMFM website. She has served as a debriefer at the Banner/SMFM Critical Care in Obsterics annual course for several years. Meredith has been honored for excellence in simulation education in resident education and is also a TeamSTEPPS master trainer. Her breech extraction simulator model was featured on a Green Journal cover. Through her committee work with ACOG she has assisted in development of several committee opinions and practice bulletins. At St. Luke’s, she has implemented resident education in critical care obstetrics and hands-on technical skills, runs regular Practicing for Patients unit-based readiness drills and multidisciplinary ED-based obstetric trauma simulations, has utilized simulation for attending skills recredentialling, has used critical care simulation to safely open four new Labor and Delivery units, and developed simulations to disseminate staff education on the movement and management of COVID patients.
