What to Expect at the 2025 Pregnancy Meeting™

As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming 2025 SMFM Pregnancy Meeting in Denver, it's time to take a closer look at what attendees can expect from this highly anticipated meeting.

I'm thrilled to announce that we received over 2,000 abstract submissions! On behalf of the Program Committee, I would like to thank everyone who submitted an abstract. Each abstract receives a minimum of four blinded peer reviews. I would also like to thank our general and senior abstract reviewers. If you have not heard back about your abstract submission, please email events@smfm.org, as all abstract notices have been sent out.

In light of the evolving landscape of publishing, particularly the shift towards online publications preceding print issues, we acknowledge the potential barrier caused by the delay between abstract submissions and presentations at the meeting. As a response, we have decided to permit abstracts accepted for poster presentation at the Pregnancy Meeting to be published in journals (digital or print) between acceptance of the abstract and the meeting. We will continue to embargo abstracts accepted for oral presentation until the day of the presentation.

On the topic of abstracts, we're currently accepting Late-Breaking Abstract Submissions until Friday, November 8. You may be eligible to submit a late-breaking abstract if you have recently completed a clinical study or conducted research after the original submission deadline.

As with previous years, the Program Committee is excited to deliver an outstanding selection of learning opportunities for attendees to apply to their practice and careers. The multidisciplinary meeting brings together experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals in obstetrics care to discuss the latest advances and emerging trends in perinatal care, exchange ideas, and build new connections.

This year, attendees will be able to select from 18 postgraduate courses. These courses are high-quality educational opportunities to expand one's knowledge and practical skills in the latest advances in MFM while obtaining CME and Ultrasound Credit (for select courses). Highlights include courses on prenatal genetics, ultrasound, fetal intervention, maternal medicine, community engagement, hands-on critical care simulation, and much more. Courses have limited space – be sure to register early to secure your spot.

In addition to the learning opportunities, the meeting will feature several ancillary and special events, from the Special Topic Forum discussing critical reproductive health topics to the luncheon roundtables, special interest groups, and the SMFM Career Fair powered by Jobs Connected. The SMFM exhibit hall continues to be the premiere opportunity to discover the latest innovations with the new mission innovation HUB. This area will feature startup companies and patient advocacy organizations. The puppies are also back, along with a photo booth, product theaters, and the opportunity to donate blood for mothers.

New this year is our Future Physicians program. Part one, with the support and coordination of our Local Arrangements Chair, Dr. Shannon Son, a select number of William Smith High School students from Aurora, Colorado, will experience a hands-on MFM simulation afternoon at the University of Colorado and then join us at the main plenary to expand their knowledge of MFM. Part two will include a select number of medical students interested in women’s health from across the U.S., chosen based on an essay contest. We're thrilled to have them join us so they can have a glimpse into the work we do!

We have also been working closely with Gaylord, Denver, to improve the sustainability of our meeting through composting, reducing plastic and waste, and other green initiatives.

Finally, join the Foundation for SMFM as we recognize the many accomplishments in our field, honor long-time friendships, and highlight the Foundation’s diverse programs with a celebratory event on Thursday evening, January 30. We hope to see many of you back on the dance floor, having witnessed your talents in 2023 in San Francisco. As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the subspecialty, we also pay tribute to the esteemed legacy of Dr. John T. Queenan. His unwavering commitment to training present and future leaders in perinatal health and fostering collaboration in advancing obstetrics in low- and middle-income countries across the globe.

Don't forget to register by October 25 to save on your registration, and keep an eye out in your inbox or on social media for more details about the 2025 SMFM Pregnancy Meeting!

I look forward to seeing you in the Mile High City at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center!
