Dr. Sparks is a Maternal Fetal Medicine physician and Clinical Geneticist at the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her medical education at UCSF, her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Brigham & Women's Hospital / Massachusetts General Hospital combined program, followed by a combined fellowship in both Maternal Fetal Medicine and Clinical Genetics at UCSF. Dr. Sparks serves as the Program Director for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at UCSF. Clinically, she provides care for individuals whose pregnancies are complicated by fetal anomalies, fetal genetic diseases, genetic diseases in the pregnant individual, or other complications. Dr. Sparks is also a physician scientist whose research interests include prenatal genetic screening and diagnostic testing, prenatal imaging and phenotyping, use of genomic sequencing for prenatal diagnosis, and outcomes of pregnancies with genetic diseases in the fetus as well as in the pregnant individual. Her primary research is focused on understanding the complex genomic etiologies of non-immune hydrops fetalis and on reshaping the approach to care for pregnancies with this diagnosis.
