Dr. Sarahn M. Wheeler is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Wheeler was born and raised in Mt. Laurel, NJ. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University. She completed medical school at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Wheeler went on to residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and she completed her Maternal-Fetal Medicine sup-specialty training at Duke University School of Medicine.
Dr. Wheeler currently serves as an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Wheeler’s research is focus on disparities in obstetric outcomes that impact Black families. Dr. Wheeler is also a practicing MFM clinician. She serves as the Medical Director of Duke Perinatal Durham and the Director of the Duke Prematurity Prevention Program. Dr. Wheeler also serves as the Vice Chair for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In this role, she leads multiple projects geared toward maintaining an inclusive environment where the diverse talent in the Duke OB/GYN department can thrive.
In addition to her service at Duke, Dr. Wheeler is active on the state and national levels. She was selected to serve on the North Carolina Institute of Medicine Maternal Health Task Force. She is the Chair of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM) Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
