Medical Education Grant Support

Overview

The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) offers commercial entities the opportunity to support educational activities through medical education grants. Contributions such as “gifts in kind,” including equipment for a course, are also considered a type of medical education grant. These grants help SMFM deliver high-quality CME programs that keep healthcare professionals at the forefront of their field.

The SMFM Pregnancy Meeting™ Postgraduate Courses are a key component of our educational offerings. These courses present a wide array of topics that provide attendees with cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills. Supporting these courses helps ensure that maternal-fetal medicine professionals are equipped with the latest advancements and best practices.

All commercial support must comply with the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, ensuring full transparency and maintaining the integrity of our educational activities.

Our Process

SMFM makes all decisions regarding the receipt and use of commercial support and ensures that the educational content remains free from commercial bias or influence. The terms, conditions, and purposes of the commercial support are outlined in a Letter of Agreement signed by the commercial entity, our CME provider Global Learning Collaborative, and SMFM prior to the meeting.

Grant funds are sent directly to the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The allocation of grant money is included in the post-CME program report, and the financial statement is available 90 days following the meeting. The commercial supporter also has the right to request information on the expenditure(s) of the funds provided to SMFM.

Disclosure and Transparency

SMFM discloses the names of the companies providing the support and the nature of the support if it was in-kind to learners prior to the educational activity. The disclosure will include a statement such as, "This CME activity is supported by a medical education grant provided by [Company Name]," which will be shown in the following locations:
Our commitment to transparency helps maintain the trust and integrity of our educational programs.
